I started training at MAU with my 8 year old twin boys back in March with the intent to have an activity with them. I had previously done karate from age 8 to 22. I have enjoyed learning and training with my boys as it is an excellent program. I have the martial arts bug again, so I will be picking up my training.

I can't say enough how much MAU has helped my 14 year old daughter. Not only has she learned some incredible physical training/martial arts, she is learning so many more life skills that apply to every day life. This will stay with her for a lifetime. You can't do any better than MAU. Master Harris and his team of instructors are first rate - they are AWESOME! I highly recommend them!

The instructors at MAU do a fabulous job teaching martial arts, but they don't stop there. They make it their mission to make their students better people. My children enjoyed their classes so much that I tried it as well. I have had a great experience and can confidently say that MAU is a wonderful place to train for both children and adults.

I joined MAU in September 2014. At the time I was going through the toughest time of my entire life. But, since joining MAU, things have changed dramatically in a positive way and I found the exact place where I can get the peace of mind and focus. Master Harris, instructor Hernandez, instructor Mack and the entire MAU staff has helped me immensely to overcome my rough time and actually made the person I am today. They helped me get my focus back, get my physical fitness right and always give me the courage to go the extra mile. They are part of my family now and I always love to be there!!!!

I am the first to admit that I was always a little skeptical of taekwando, thinking it was "strip mall" karate. However I could not have been more wrong with MAU and especially Master Todd Harris. I began by enrolling both my daughters, 5 & 8 into a Summer camp. After about 4 weeks I started to see a massive transformation in their confidence and excitement. I was so impressed that I as a 42 year old started to take taekwando for myself. I have lost 6 lbs and more importantly have an opportunity to work out with my girls 3 days a week. The leadership at MAU is first class, spending as much time developing the character of the students, as they do their techniques. I have recommended this dojo to several friends and colleagues, and give MAU the easiest 5 star rating to date. Be it for your child or for yourself, its time and effort very well spent.

Martial Arts University is a great place to bring your kids! The instructors are really in-tune with both adults and kids in the classes. They are top-notch and really, really good people. There is always a message attached to each class regarding becoming a better person, targeted towards the kids in the class. The life lesson portion of each class is quick but meaningful and includes respect, perseverance, gratitude, generosity and many other traits that are important for children to learn.

Martial Arts University is an amazing place! The energy when you step inside the door is palpable...it's a positive energy that exudes confidence....confidence that says 'MAU will make a difference in you and your family if you give us the chance'! Every member of the staff is kind, knowledgeable and interacts well with both kids and parents. But more than that, they know how to create meaningful connections and that's how the real magic happens!

It's hard not to like this place. Sure you can find other places to teach a form of Martial Arts but MAU is different. It starts at the top Master Harris is truly a Master; his ability to connect quickly with students regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic status is pretty special. However it doesn't stop there, each and every instructor brings something unique to the table. As you watch them all interact with each other and their students you quickly understand what first looks like chaos is really a controlled environment designed for multiple student/teacher connect points focused to encourage and motivate. Success is not always defined as the best form but who puts forth the best effort, dedication and focus. I'm seeing that does come as long as the effort is there. So if you want your child to learn more than just Tae Kwon Do from people who are passionate, caring and really love their "job" give this place a try.

The Positive Effects of Martial Arts for a Child in School

Grade school can be quite the experience for any child. It is a place where a child not only learns academically but one where a child must learn to socialize and function in the world. Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative experiences that a child may have when going through school. Whatever those experiences may be, it would be a good idea to have a child participate in martial arts classes. Doing so will give them the tools they need to survive the school experience. The benefits associated with taking martial arts classes are essential for them to be able to have a positive experience in school.

Helps them earn better grades in school

Getting good grades is reflective of a child’s comprehension of the material. But, it is also indicative of their discipline and responsibility traits. Through martial arts, students are to learn the fundamentals of stretch and physical routines. They also learn to become disciplined with practice and keeping up with their cleanliness of uniforms. Children learn how to be punctual and can focus their daily thoughts on the tasks at hand. Thus, being able to exhibit these positive traits will translate to better grades as schooling requires the proficiency of these characteristics.

Gives them the confidence to stand up to bullies

Bullying is a very prominent and unfortunate experience that many children will either witness or become victims of in their lifetimes. Being a part of martial arts can give children the strength and confidence that they need to stand up to these negative individuals. Not only will they learn about self-defense strategies, they will be able to feel assertive and courageous. Possessing self-confidence is the number one way for a child to be able to stand up for him/herself in any threatening situation. Through martial arts, they will learn that not all conflicts have to be physical. They will possess the mature mindset to tackle any conflict with assurance and pride.

Gives them the ability to make friends

Having friends and keeping them can be the big difference between a positive and negative school experience for children. They will latch onto people who share common interests with them and feel devastated when those relationships disappear. However, for children who regularly practice martial arts, they have a different capacity to make and keep friends in their circle. Besides making friends in the martial arts classes themselves, children are able to easily socialize and collaborate with other students at school. They instill a lot of the same discipline and traits they learn from martial arts in their everyday lives. For instance, they may be first to

initiate a conversation with quiet students because they feel confident in themselves to do so.

Being a part of something special such as martial arts can be greatly impactful for children. Especially when it comes to school, children can gain invaluable skills and behaviors that will allow them to have more successful experiences in social settings. Although school is meant to teach them about a variety of things, having martial arts as a supplement can significantly affect the way they approach schooling and their overall experiences.
