I started training at MAU with my 8 year old twin boys back in March with the intent to have an activity with them. I had previously done karate from age 8 to 22. I have enjoyed learning and training with my boys as it is an excellent program. I have the martial arts bug again, so I will be picking up my training.

I can't say enough how much MAU has helped my 14 year old daughter. Not only has she learned some incredible physical training/martial arts, she is learning so many more life skills that apply to every day life. This will stay with her for a lifetime. You can't do any better than MAU. Master Harris and his team of instructors are first rate - they are AWESOME! I highly recommend them!

The instructors at MAU do a fabulous job teaching martial arts, but they don't stop there. They make it their mission to make their students better people. My children enjoyed their classes so much that I tried it as well. I have had a great experience and can confidently say that MAU is a wonderful place to train for both children and adults.

I joined MAU in September 2014. At the time I was going through the toughest time of my entire life. But, since joining MAU, things have changed dramatically in a positive way and I found the exact place where I can get the peace of mind and focus. Master Harris, instructor Hernandez, instructor Mack and the entire MAU staff has helped me immensely to overcome my rough time and actually made the person I am today. They helped me get my focus back, get my physical fitness right and always give me the courage to go the extra mile. They are part of my family now and I always love to be there!!!!

I am the first to admit that I was always a little skeptical of taekwando, thinking it was "strip mall" karate. However I could not have been more wrong with MAU and especially Master Todd Harris. I began by enrolling both my daughters, 5 & 8 into a Summer camp. After about 4 weeks I started to see a massive transformation in their confidence and excitement. I was so impressed that I as a 42 year old started to take taekwando for myself. I have lost 6 lbs and more importantly have an opportunity to work out with my girls 3 days a week. The leadership at MAU is first class, spending as much time developing the character of the students, as they do their techniques. I have recommended this dojo to several friends and colleagues, and give MAU the easiest 5 star rating to date. Be it for your child or for yourself, its time and effort very well spent.

Martial Arts University is a great place to bring your kids! The instructors are really in-tune with both adults and kids in the classes. They are top-notch and really, really good people. There is always a message attached to each class regarding becoming a better person, targeted towards the kids in the class. The life lesson portion of each class is quick but meaningful and includes respect, perseverance, gratitude, generosity and many other traits that are important for children to learn.

Martial Arts University is an amazing place! The energy when you step inside the door is palpable...it's a positive energy that exudes confidence....confidence that says 'MAU will make a difference in you and your family if you give us the chance'! Every member of the staff is kind, knowledgeable and interacts well with both kids and parents. But more than that, they know how to create meaningful connections and that's how the real magic happens!

It's hard not to like this place. Sure you can find other places to teach a form of Martial Arts but MAU is different. It starts at the top Master Harris is truly a Master; his ability to connect quickly with students regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic status is pretty special. However it doesn't stop there, each and every instructor brings something unique to the table. As you watch them all interact with each other and their students you quickly understand what first looks like chaos is really a controlled environment designed for multiple student/teacher connect points focused to encourage and motivate. Success is not always defined as the best form but who puts forth the best effort, dedication and focus. I'm seeing that does come as long as the effort is there. So if you want your child to learn more than just Tae Kwon Do from people who are passionate, caring and really love their "job" give this place a try.

Why Senior Citizens Can Benefit From Martial Arts

As people grow older, they begin to find ways to be more productive and make use of their time. For senior citizens, in particular, they find that there is even more time they need to utilize and want to do so effectively. Many will go out and find other jobs while others will pursue hobbies and activities that they never could before retirement. Martial arts is one activity that many seniors should take advantage of in their pursuit of finding a participatory activity. There are many benefits associated with taking martial arts classes.

Sustain Mental Health

Growing older can be a wonderful thing as people become more experienced and wise in their lifetimes. However, the brain does not function as quickly or healthy as it did during childhood. With that said, seniors tend to experience more issues such as memory loss or slower reactions. Martial arts can significantly help alleviate these symptoms. It does so through the discipline and constant practice of reflexive routines that help seniors keep their mental alertness. The brain is a muscle that needs to be exercised just as much as other muscles within the body. Martial arts for seniors is especially important in maintaining their own mental health and awareness.

Make Friends and Build Community

As seniors grow into their retirements, their friend circles tend to decrease over time. They are no longer going to work each day and seeing their co-workers on a regular basis. Enlisting in and taking martial arts classes gives them a chance to make new friends and build a community. People in martial arts classes share a common interest in the sport. They may all have joined for different reasons, but the outcome is the same. There are a multitude of exercises that involve partner and group activities. This builds teamwork and each person feels connected to the entire group. They all build a sense of camaraderie and hold each other accountable. Again, this is a great reason for seniors to join martial arts classes because they need to be able to socialize and feel welcomed in things that foster that type of behavior.

Physical Fitness

Exercise is vitally important to everyone, but specifically to senior citizens. Bodily functions and strength are just not the same when it comes to a senior’s body versus people in their 30s. In order to keep up a healthy body, a senior should be sure to build muscle and bone strength. Osteoporosis is one of the most common conditions that any senior will begin to experience. This comes from a weak skeletal structure. To protect their bones, they need to build up their muscle strength. Martial arts tremendously helps with building that muscle strength as well as a person’s overall

endurance. Heart disease is another common ailment for people over the age of 40. Practicing martial arts will significantly reduce a senior’s risk for heart diseases because of the physical routines associated with its art.

Martial arts for seniors should be something that many people consider to be an all- around activity. Not only does it provide a chance for them to be active, but it can give them multiple mental benefits as well. Giving seniors the chance to do something once considered unconventional is an amazing opportunity to give them back their sense of self and confidence give them back their sense of self and confidence.
